Star Search 2024: The Top 20 contestants include a breakdancing couple and a content creator

The wait is finally over. On Thursday (Sep 12), Mediacorp unveiled the Top 20 contestants for this year’s iteration of its iconic talent discovery programme Star Search. Candidates for Singapore’s next big star include a national athlete, a breakdancing couple and a content creator.
Star Search 2024 comes after a five-year hiatus and started in July with three rounds of open auditions held at Funan and Orchard Central.
Here is the full list of contestants:
Amy Ang, 21: Fans of the Singaporean media company SGAG might be familiar with Amy from some of their videos. She is a content strategist, content creator – and a self-professed dedicated fan of period dramas.
Gladys Bay, 28: Gladys is taking part in Star Search 2024 alongside her husband, Marcus Sim. This host has represented Singapore in three ranking competitions in an attempt to earn a spot in Breaking at the Olympic Qualifier Series.
Tiffany Ho, 19: Tiffany came to Singapore to study when she was just 14. Currently a student, she’s passionate about dancing and aspires to become a household name and live up to her family’s expectations and support.
Koh Boon Wun, 17: Boon Wun is a keen guitar player and has recently taken up Muay Thai. Her greatest aspiration is to bring joy and laughter to those around her.
Lee Ting Xuan, 19: Previously a member of her school basketball team, Ting Xuan finds joy and stress relief in the sport. Her Star Search audition marked her first-ever stage performance.
Ler Ka Ying, 28: Describing herself as quirky yet introverted, Ka Ying enjoys listening to music and journalling. She hopes to win a Golden Horse Award one day.
Gladys Ng, 24: A student of Thai-Chinese heritage and an avid fan of Mediacorp artistes and dramas, Gladys Ng is fluent in Thai and Mandarin.
Alina Tan, 22: Despite her young age, Alina has had years of theatre experience and is a skilled painter and singer.
June Tan, 25: Currently majoring in broadcasting and hosting, June is passionate about languages and culture. She is proficient in English, Chinese and French, and aspires to excel in both hosting and acting.
Sufeia Azura Sunir, 17: This student of Indian-Chinese heritage speaks four languages: Chinese, English, Malay and Tamil. She dreams of becoming an actress and a radio DJ.
Chua Seng Jin, 25: This freelancer describes himself as “mysterious and outgoing”, and believes he can learn from everyone he meets.
Jona Chung, 25: Jona has licences in badminton refereeing and swimming coaching. In his spare time, he enjoys surfing, filming stunts and action scenes, and has a keen interest in cosplay and crocheting.
Heng Jee Kuan, 22: This university student and part-time model spends his free time playing soccer and pole vaulting, for which he won a bronze medal at the Southeast Asian Youth Athletics Championships.
Jadon Lim, 23: Currently a university student, Jadon also works as a part-time model. He enjoys dancing to express his emotions and pursues his passion for baking in his free time.
Mitchell Lim, 23: A long-time fan of Mediacorp Channel 8 programmes, Mitchell is skilled in the traditional art of the 24 Festive Drums and has a deep love for Teochew opera and tea-tasting.
Christopher Ng, 24: A freelancer by profession, Christopher is outgoing and passionate about outdoor activities.
Marcus Sim, 27: Outside of his work as a creative designer, Marcus is also a breakdancer like his wife and fellow Star Search 2024 contestant Gladys Bay.
Tan Zi Sheng, 21: Beyond excelling academically, Zi Sheng also has a passion for sports and aims to refine his acting and hosting skills through Star Search.
Gino Wong, 25: Gino describes himself as courageous, versatile, and confident. He excels in dancing, acting, and hosting.
Clement Yeo, 25: This university student works part-time as an actor in drama and theatre. Recently, Clement has also taken up juggling. 
The 20 contestants are currently taking masterclasses from multiple industry professionals such as Guo Liang, Dennis Chew and Sheila Sim.
Viewers can follow their journey to becoming the next entertainment sensation in a five-episode series, which will air every Sunday from Oct 20. The live finale of Star Search 2024 will be held on Nov 24. The top three winners will each win a brand-new BYD electric vehicle; the grand champion will also be awarded a contract with Mediacorp.
