Here's some information from the AIRAM website....
Size for size, the Airam will out perform a crank press on both speed and accuracy, and it is virtually maintenance free.
An “Airam” press is a pneumatically operated die set (rated at 100 Psi) using air pressure on the down (power) stroke and coil, or marshmellow springs for the up stroke.
There are no clutches, no flywheels, no painstaking hours needed to fit the work to the press. The Airam can't jam, and delivers practically its full-rated tonnage throughout its stroke range.
On the down stroke, the Airtube/Elastomeric actuator is filled with air, at the signal from the control system, forcing the airtube to expand, applying pressure to perform the required work. When the work is complete, the control signal tells the valve(s) to exhaust and the ram returns to top stop, thus completing the cycle.
